About the Book
What can human writers create in an age when AI can write fiction?
Japanese author Eikyo Matsunaga explores this question through Literature, More or Less, a collection of ten unconventional short stories filled with absurd situations, unexpected turns, and distinctly Japanese humor.
A mysterious clinic prescribes rice instead of medicine. A village of salmon develops an extraordinary strategy for survival. A legendary goldfish scooper faces an impossible challenge. And these are only the beginning.
Behind the absurdity lies a serious literary experiment.
After experimenting with AI-generated fiction and comparing his own writing against AI in a project called “AI vs Me,” Matsunaga began searching for stories that might emerge from a uniquely human imagination.
His ambition is to challenge the very forefront of contemporary literature—not by imitating AI’s polished prose, but by pursuing the strange, ridiculous, unpredictable possibilities of human creativity.
Ten stories. One question: What remains uniquely human when machines can write?
Literature, More or Less invites readers into an unusual world where the seemingly trivial becomes the subject of fiction, and laughter opens the door to a deeper question about literature itself.
